This presentation focuses on the application of modern technologies used to reinvent the design details and manufacturing processes of an existing part in the absence of original design data. It introduces reverse engineering from both engineering development and legal ratification perspectives. It emphasizes the real-life practice of reverse engineering in the industry with illustrative demonstration.</span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRBhICRmUD5npgqHubjStiw6f_GSs4Bw5kxogETbAjhiCJtOfzTCLK5s1V-XHHx6KmLjDgwrqdBDEf6O5IsIoaIlUHj6uL-NCTfwPZ5BRtoUHH2eGrSgNN0f3B5nfe_VpcjuSA3H9CvF6zFmk_DFXLnp4Dh7qtwcgRRcFIuhFdxSZqT5xs1VZCECri/s797/mini_magick20220701-20834-ra16ya.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="797" data-original-width="544" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRBhICRmUD5npgqHubjStiw6f_GSs4Bw5kxogETbAjhiCJtOfzTCLK5s1V-XHHx6KmLjDgwrqdBDEf6O5IsIoaIlUHj6uL-NCTfwPZ5BRtoUHH2eGrSgNN0f3B5nfe_VpcjuSA3H9CvF6zFmk_DFXLnp4Dh7qtwcgRRcFIuhFdxSZqT5xs1VZCECri/s320/mini_magick20220701-20834-ra16ya.png" width="218" /></a></div><br /><br /><span style="background-color: #fcfcfb; color: #241f21; font-family: "Source Sans Pro", "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span><p></p>Neil Lui (webmaster)http://www.blogger.com/profile/08983140332409318124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4041577879679360489.post-32728267645797602372023-03-13T20:15:00.000-07:002023-04-07T20:18:30.781-07:00SAE BC Event Summary: Dipale Ghodake "Aeroacoustics Problems and Modelling Challenges in Electric Vehicles"<p><span lang="en-US">On 13Mar2023 Dr.

In BC, a variety of vehicles are designed by approximately 10 teams across 5 educational institutions. The </span><span style="font-family: helvetica; text-align: left; white-space: pre-wrap;">2020 and 2021 SAE seasons were unusual for student teams in BC with all teams suspending in-person work on their vehicles and moving to an online competition model. The main struggles associated with online operations included keeping members engaged in their work and attending weekly meetings. </span><span style="font-family: helvetica; text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">At the beginning of the 2022 season, hopes were high that teams would once again be returning to competing in person however a few of the team leads realized the challenges of building vehicles after an 18-month break. 2 classes of students have graduated during the pandemic causing teams to lose lots of hands-on knowledge. The ongoing pandemic also created further hurdles such as border shutdowns, school closures and various safety protocols. Even with these obstacles, however, many teams were able to assemble their vehicles on time and attend competitions! </span></span></div><p><span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: x-small;"></span></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://media.saebritishcolumbia.org/images/sae%20bc%20supermileage.png" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="317" src="http://media.saebritishcolumbia.org/images/sae%20bc%20supermileage.png" width="423" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">UBC Supermileage</td></tr></tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: x-small;"></span></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; text-align: left; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; text-align: left; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;">For teams who attended, competitions were generally a lot of fun. In the paddock, students had a chance to present their designs, chat with other teams, network with industry professionals and even interview for work positions! On the track, things rarely went as planned and many repairs & alterations had to be done with various levels of success. Overall the events were great learning experiences which inspired many to continue their education and get more involved. </span></span><span style="text-align: left; white-space: pre-wrap;">Following an eventful competition season, students are eager to compete again and are hard at work building their 2023 machines. They would like to share their experiences and future plans with the rest of the BC SAE community on November 21st during this year's student night. They hope to see you there!</span></div></span><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: small; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://media.saebritishcolumbia.org/images/sae%20bc%20uvic%20formula.png" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="571" data-original-width="800" height="341" src="http://media.saebritishcolumbia.org/images/sae%20bc%20uvic%20formula.png" width="478" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">UVic Formula</td></tr></tbody></table><p></p>Neil Lui (webmaster)http://www.blogger.com/profile/08983140332409318124noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4041577879679360489.post-17013021418854402852022-03-15T20:05:00.003-07:002022-03-15T20:05:32.420-07:00SAE Alberta: AMTA Truck AI Co-pilot "Platooning"<p>SAE AB is hosting a webinar on March 17, 2022 at 11am PST. across a Floating Bridge with John Sleavin, Deputy Executive Director of
Design Engineering and Construction Management at Sound Transit is
on <b>Dec 7 at 5PM PST.</b></span></span></p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bHpVREKbOzE" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></div>
<p><span data-reactroot=""><span style="z-index: 1;">Running light rail over a floating bridge has never been done before
anywhere in the world. Sound Transit will be the first agency to ever do
this. Installing light rail across the flexing, twisting I‑90 Lake
Washington Floating Bridge presented a host of unique engineering
challenges including weight limitations, ensuring electric-powered
trains could travel safely across a large body of water, and more. We’ll
cover a few of them and go into detail on how they placed light rail
tracks from the fixed bridge to the floating bridge across eight
transition joints, each of which had to accommodate six degrees of
movement. We’ll trace the engineering challenges from early concept,
through design, testing, and installation.
John Sleavin’s engineering career includes an impressive array of
transportation projects, including several in Malaysia, Singapore, and
Portland. In Seattle, the projects he’s been involved with are almost
the history of major engineering projects within the region. They
include Link Light Rail in Tacoma, the South Lake Union Streetcar,
Sounder Commuter Rail between Seattle and Tacoma, the original Downtown
Seattle Transit Tunnel, construction of the light rail segment from
downtown to the airport including Beacon Hill tunnels, the University
and Northgate Link Extensions, and the 14-mile East Link Extension which
includes the I‑90 Floating Bridge. Currently John oversees Link
Extensions to the Tacoma Dome, West Seattle, Ballard, and Everett, and
Operations and Maintenance Facilities North and South.</span></span></p><p><span data-reactroot=""><span style="z-index: 1;"><br /> </span></span> <br /></p>Social Media Manager - Neil Luihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01601714259932729128noreply@blogger.com0Seattle, WA, USA47.6062095 -122.332070819.295975663821153 -157.4883208 75.916443336178844 -87.1758208tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4041577879679360489.post-27198735549803966442021-11-28T18:45:00.007-08:002021-11-28T18:46:26.503-08:00OPEN REGISTRATION: "Fueling Our Future Transporation Needs" technical meeting<p><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span><span data-offset-key="dpbge-0-0"><span data-text="true">Our next free online event on "Fueling Our Future Transportation Needs" is on Dec 13, 6PM-7:30PM. <b>Register now and join us! <a href="https://www.saebritishcolumbia.org/p/event-registration.html" target="">https://www.saebritishcolumbia.org/p/event-registration.html</a></b></span></span></span></span></span></p><div data-contents="true"><div data-block="true" data-editor="30ajs" data-offset-key="cnjka-0-0"><div class="public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr" data-offset-key="cnjka-0-0"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span><span data-offset-key="cnjka-0-0"><span data-text="true">Our guest speaker will be William (Bill) Chamberlin. Conventional petroleum-based transportation fuels have undesirable impacts on health, the environment, and geopolitics. Advances in fuels, and power/storage systems may address issues that are concerning without sacrificing mobility expectations. Bill Chamberlin will draw on his 30+ years in R&D and participation in alternative fuel developments to highlight some of the obstacles to progressing these advances to reality. The current desire to move away from the hazards of current fossil fuels will not be a success if it results in exchanging known problems for new ones. Previous efforts to develop alternatives can highlight some of the issues that need to be considered for a successful transition. Some examples of the areas that will be discussed are safety, cost, and resource supply. </span></span></span></span></span></div><div class="public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr" data-offset-key="cnjka-0-0"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span><span data-offset-key="cnjka-0-0"><span data-text="true"><br /></span></span></span></span></span></div><div class="public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr" data-offset-key="cnjka-0-0"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="background-color: white;"><b data-stringify-type="bold" style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-ligatures: common-ligatures; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration-color: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">Brief Biography (William Chamberlin)</b><span style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; display: inline; float: none; font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-ligatures: common-ligatures; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration-color: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;"> </span></span></span></span></span></div><div class="public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr" data-offset-key="cnjka-0-0"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; display: inline; float: none; font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-ligatures: common-ligatures; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration-color: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">MS, BA Chemistry, Miami U.
